When the well was open, it was closed and closed in 1954, where later taps were installed to make it more accessible to the population. Legend has it that anyone who drank from the well of S. Vicente never left the village again.
The name of Poço de S. Vicente, is due to its proximity to the Church of S. Vicente in Cuba.
There is a reference to this well as early as 1600, at which time the Parish of Vila de Cuba was created and given to it by Orago, S. Vicente.
