Although the date of its founding is not very clear, judging by some historical War of Independence documents in which the city is already mentioned, it can be established that it was founded during the Colony. The city was first born as a mining town, as the pink stone of Rigolemu was mined for the construction of palaces, sinks and other structures. Pelequén quarry has been reported to have been mined since 1870, and to this day remains a major source of employment in the area.
In the commune of Malloa, 41 kilometers southwest of the city of Rancagua.
In this town, there are quarries that work with the traditional pink stone, with white and gray visas of Rigolemu (volcanic tuff), extracted from the quarries existing in the hills that surround the sector. With the touch of a chisel, artisans shape pools, table bases, columns, pavers, and a variety of products displayed on both sides of the Pan American Highway.
