In its 151 years of existence, many generations of Colchaguino students and teachers have passed through its classrooms, having contributed greatly to the formation of the inhabitants of this area.

The Liceo de Hombres was created by Supreme Decree of February 26, 1846, under the government of Don Manuel Bulnes. The first rector of the Liceo and who was in charge of running the new establishment was Don Toribio Sotomayor. Its first headquarters was in Calle Talcahuano (today Spain), and consisted of three courtyards, around which were the classrooms and other dependencies, such as the one remembered ´´sala de confierros´´. Having occupied two other premises, under the government of Don José Manuel Balmaceda, the two-story building that we know today was built. At first it had four bodies that surrounded the first courtyard, after successive improvements, which included changing cladding and roofs, opening of bays and windows, it was completed in 1901. It can be said that the building has a clean neoclassical style, on a continuous rhythm of windows, which on the first floor are lowered arch and on the second rectangular, highlights the central access marked by a triangular pediment, in which the word lyceum is read and on which there is an allegory of knowledge and learning . The access leads to the central courtyard, from which classrooms and administrative units can be seen. Its structure is made of brick and Oregon pine. The doors have wrought iron ornaments on their lintels, being a work of great beauty. Although it needs a restoration, its structure is in good condition.

Within the history of the Lyceum, we must highlight the one who assumed the Rectory of the same for 46 years: Mr. Neandro Schilling. He had a particular importance because he gave great prestige to this institution, knowing how to handle it with intelligence, thoughtfulness, rectitude and industry. In fact, it is in his honor that the day of the Lyceum is celebrated on August 9, since it corresponds to the date on which he assumed as Rector.

It is located on the northwestern side of the Plaza de Armas de San Fernando.

San Fernando is located 132 kilometers from Santiago and 54 kilometers from Rancagua.

Take the Panamerican Highway 5 south.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the high school still conserves teaching material delivered when it was inaugurated, including, among others, microscopes, world maps and various laboratory instruments, etc. those that today have incalculable historical value.

It was named a National Monument on December 6, 1995.
