Curacao owes its existence to the sea. Its strategic location and natural harbor has made it a great port and shopping center from the beginning of its history. The interior of the museum embraces maritime history and modern design in a historic building from the 17th century restored to its former glory, is spectacular. The museum is located in a mansion built in 1729 at the entrance Waaigat just above the floating market. The exhibit includes antique miniatures, 17th century models ships and maps, some until it dates back to 1500.
Visitors can relax in the harbor cafe and browse the museum shop. Boat trips depart on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, reservations are required.
