Java is located on a chain of islands with Sumatra to the northwest and Bali to the east. It is the thirteenth largest island in the world. To the northeast is Borneo. To the south is Christmas Island.
Java has an almost entirely volcanic origin and contains no less than 38 mountains whose characteristic conical shape indicates that in the past they were active volcanoes. The most famous volcano to visit is Bromo Volcano in East Java near the city - Probolingo Java contains the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. Popular tourist destinations include the city of Yogyakarta, a large pyramid-shaped Buddhist monument known as Borobudur and the largest Hindu temple in Java, the Prambanan.
Java (Indonesian: Jawa)? With an area of 132,000 km², it has a population of 124 million, making it the most populous island in the world, ahead of Honshu, Japan. In addition, Java is Indonesia's most densely populated island with 864 people per km². If it were a country, it would rank second on the list of the most densely populated countries in the world.
