At the end of the 18th century, since there was no parish in what was then the town of Morón, the bishop of Buenos Aires decided to create the parish in the area, which was located in the lands of Francisco de Merlo.

Already at the beginning of the seventeenth century it is said that travelers traveling inland prostrated themselves in front of an image of the Immaculate Conception installed in a hermitage in Morón, the first post of the Camino Real to the north, praying for a good trip in the face of the threat of dangers of the Indian, who stalked the immense plain.

At the beginning of the 18th century Francisco de Merlo acquired the image that was known as the Immaculate Conception of the Camino and dedicated his chapel to San Antonio de Padua and Our Lady of the Conception of the Camino.

On August 12, 1776, the Merlo parish was closed and it was moved to its current location in the town of Morón. The parish priest Juan Antonio Merlo, son of Francisco de Merlo, also moved to the parish.

At that time the Jesuits brought the invocation of the Virgin Viajera de Loreto, patron saint of the order, and over time the invocation of the Immaculate Conception of the Road changed its name to the Immaculate Conception of the Good Journey.

Such was the identification that the Villa de Morón had with this Marian dedication that in 1838 the town was mentioned in official State documents as Morón de la Concepción.

In January 1824, Canon Juan María Mastai Ferretti officiated Mass in the church, who would be the future Pope Pius IX who was part of the Pontifical Mission headed by the Apostolic Vicar Juan Muzi.

In 1823 the minister Bernardino Rivadavia granted 500 pesos for the restoration of the church that was in a dilapidated state.

The second temple was built by the parish priest Francisco Romero in 1854. The permit for the construction was granted in 1852 and for this purpose 11,000 pesos were assigned.

On February 5, 1859, a Te Deum is celebrated in the church to celebrate the inauguration of the Morón Station.

The priest Romero himself, on July 31, 1868, placed in solemn ceremony the cornerstone of the third and current temple. The temple was released to worship in 1871 and finished when the construction of its two towers was completed in 1885. On August 15, 1944 it was consecrated. In 1947 the diocesan coronation of the Virgin took place. Pope Pius XII elevated the temple to a Cathedral Church when he created the Bishopric in 1957. In August 1963, Pope John XXIII declared it a Minor Basilica, thanks to the efforts of Bishop Miguel Raspanti, who is buried in front of the altar of the basilica. In June 1982, Pope John Paul II stopped in Morón and prayed before the image of the Immaculate Conception of Good Trip.

The Cathedral Basilica Inmaculada Concepción del Buen Viaje is located in the city of Morón, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

It is located on Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje street between Gral. Belgrano and Gral. Libertador San Martín, in front of the Plaza del Libertador General San Martín, 4 blocks from Morón Station.

In 1995 it was declared a Municipal Historical Monument (Exp. 59993/05).
