It was the residence of the Chilean poet Nobel Prize for Literature Pablo Neruda. In 1955, Pablo Neruda and Matilde Urrutia choose this place to live.
In the house, there is an important amount of books, paintings and other objects that he has collected throughout his life. In addition, this residence is the headquarters of the Neruda Foundation.
The journey to this strange-textured house begins with the continuous bar to the dining room, where collections of paintings begin to appear, mostly still lifes, and some representative paintings by Chilean artists, many of whom worked with him to illustrate his poems.
The bar belonged to an old French ship, whose deck is tin; the dining room, a long, narrow table in a boat-roofed room that ends in a small, almost secret door that gives access to a very narrow spiral staircase that leads to a bedroom.
Above the living room is Pablo and Matilde's bedroom. After climbing stairs and slopes, before the third volume, there is another bar full of picturesque figures, diverse collections, giant shoes, all ready for entertainment and fun.
And then the library and table, where you can check the prizes and prizes received by Neruda, including, of course, the Nobel Prize medal.
La Chascona has two attached facilities: the shop and the cafeteria.
Its name - "La Chascona" - was written by Neruda in reference to the hair of his secret love until 1955. "Chascona" is used as a synonym for the word "shaggy".
It is located at the foot of San Cristobal Hill. It is located at Fernando Marquez de la Plata 0192 Street, Providencia in Santiago
Declared a National Monument in 1990.
In another of the spaces in the house is the living room, where is the famous Diego Rivera painting by Matilde, in which Neruda's profile is hidden in her hair, a painting painted on a trip to Chile from Rivera in 1953 and two works by Fernand Leger, who also made illustrations for the French edition of Canto General.
