The Danish Museum of Science and Technology is a private institution, founded in 1911 in Copenhagen, where the collection was only occasionally on exhibit. In 1966 the museum moved to Elsinore and opened its first building and in 1969 the second at Nordre Strandvej, Elsinore.
From september 2002 the entire museum has relocated to 25, Fabriksvej in the southern part of Elsinore.
The Danish Museum of Science and Technology has been extended to 8000 square meters exhibit in a former iron foundry from the nineteensixties. In these big halls one will find the development in technology, science and industri. The museum has an impressive collection of steam engines, inventions, electric appliances, bicycles, cars and airplanes. A complete pewter workshop has been built inside the museum and you can also experience how Hans Christian Ørsted in 1820 discovered electromagnetism. In the exhibit on Communication, you will find Valdemar Poulsen’s invention, the Telegraphone, which is the forefarther of modern tape recording.
The aviation department has more than 30 airplanes on exibit, from gyrocopters to helicopters and even a complete Caravelle airliner. Also on exhibit, is an airplane of the 'Danish Edison', the inventor J.C. Ellehammer, who, in the minds of the Danes, were the first to fly in Europe in 1906, but never internationally recorded as the first European flight. Looking at his flying machine and the rest of the exhibited, planes it is impossible not to marvel at the speed at which the subsequent development took place. You will also find the workshop where a team of volounteers are building an exact replica of the first Danish traffic airplane, the F.F 49C.
Placed around in the exhibit there are several pieces which can be touched, mounted or otherwise operated, some which require that you insert a coin.
