Cardinal Infante Dom Henrique, the first archbishop of Évora and future King Henry I of Portugal, was ordered to build in the sixteenth century on the grounds of Quinta do Paço de Valverde, to house a community of Capuchin friars.
Of the set stands out the chapel of micro-architecture Renaissance, inspired by classic Italian models. The small temple has a Greek cross plan, formed by the central octagonal body on its outer faces, cut by the insertion of four radiant chapels, equally of octave plan. The central dome rises on a very high drum, torn by eight windows.
The chapel and cloister of the Convento do Bom Jesus de Valverde are classified as Public Interest Buildings by Decree No. 44452 of Government Gazette No. 152 of July 5, 1962.
