The lake is characterized by being a concentration of artificial water that reaches a surface of 57 km2, in which waters of the Maule river are enclosed and that is part of the Colbún-Machicura electrical complex, inaugurated in 1985 and that are used for irrigation and for hydroelectric power production.



Continuing along the riverbank, you will first arrive at the Colbún Alto town, and at the ‘main dam’, which belongs to Lake Colbún and the one that is enclosed in the narrowness of the Maule River.





It is located 45 km. from Talca towards the Cordillera de los Andes.



Talca is located 253 km from Santiago, 50 km. from Linares and 68 km. of Curicó. It can be reached:



By bus

Buses leave from Santiago to Talca in the South Terminal near the Metro Universidad de Santiago. The trip lasts approximately 3 and a half hours. You should check timetables at the respective roads or bus terminals. There are multiple departure frequencies to Talca for each bus line and they vary between every 30 minutes to an hour.



By car

You must take Route 5 South. The tour takes 3 and a half hours from Santiago de Chile.



By train

From the Central Station in the city of Santiago. Few frequencies come out.
