The Cathedral of the Santísima Concepción is the cathedral of Concepción de Chile, seat of the Archdiocese of the Santísima Concepción and one of the main temples of the Catholic Church in Chile.
The old cathedral of the city, located in the same place where the current one is, was considered of great architectural, cultural and social value. After the Chillán Earthquake of 1939, it was seriously affected. Its two towers were swaying dangerously, so it had to be demolished.
Present Cathedral After the destruction of the Old Cathedral, the need arose to build a new temple for the faithful penquistas, to replace the one destroyed by the earthquake.
This began to take shape on November 3, 1940, and the cathedral was officially inaugurated and handed over for worship, on July 11, 1964, the day of its Consecration.
It is located next to the Cathedral of Concepción, in Caupolicán 441.

By plane
Daily flights depart from Santiago at the Arturo Merino Benítez Airport. The duration of the flight is 1 hour.
By car
It can be reached from Chillán to the southwest by Route 5 South, it is 15 km., And then to the west by Route 152. In total there are 112 km. on asphalt road.
It can be reached from Los Angeles to the north by Route 5 south to the town of Cabrero and from there to the northwest. In total there are 130 km. on asphalt road.
By bus
Buses leave every 1 hour from the main terminals in Santiago, the trip takes 6 hours. From regions there are daily departures, you should check with the respective road terminals.
The Cathedral has Romanesque stylistic overtones, in a combination of Byzantine and Modern art. Inside there is a main altar, two side altars, and a large fresco by the painter José Alejandro Rubio Dalmatti, as well as stained glass windows with images of saints and iron doors with passages from the Old and New Testaments, made by Dalmati. Its ceiling is covered with handcrafted wood and the maximum height of its main nave is 22 meters. The temple in its planimetric dimension follows the basilica plan scheme of three naves without a transept, with an apse that houses the main altar and a wide access staircase, which configures the atrium that faces the west side of the Plaza Independencia. According to the regulatory plan of Concepción, this building is considered the city's architectural heritage.
