It constitutes an important link of connection with other castles of the defensive line in the Alentejo.
Its construction dates back to the 13th century and was donated by Alfonso III of Portugal (1248-1279) to the Knights of the Order of Avis.
These traces were classified as Property of Public Interest by Decree published on September 29, 1977.
