The company was formed in 1985 as Atlantic Air Transport and was renamed RVL Aviation in April 2007.
In addition to ad hoc passenger and cargo cargoes, the company specializes in aerial surveying and surveillance and, in particular, operations of the Maritime Agency and Coast Guard (MCA). The work for MCA includes surveillance and search and rescue support and aircraft delivery in readiness to spray dispersant oil spills. Originally using a fleet of Douglas DC-3 aircraft with a piston engine, the company intends to use the Boeing 737 in the role of emergency spray.
