In a dominant position on a hill on the right bank of the River Tagus, once constituting the so-called Tagus Line, it is currently part of the Templar Tourism Region.
Constructed of stone masonry, it presents irregular polygonal (organic) plan, accompanying the rocky outcropping on which it stands, with predominantly straight faces.
Originally in Romanesque style, the reforms introduced to it in the 13th century gave it the Gothic aspect.
