It was submerged in the early 1970s and with it a great ethnographic richness, associated with agro-silvo-pastoral activities, experiences and community spirit of its people, housing and other stories of the past.
The village of Vilarinho das Furnas was a place of the parish of Campo do Gerês, located in the Northeast area of the municipality of Terras de Bouro. It was submerged in the early 1970s and with it a great ethnographic richness, associated with agro-silvo-pastoral activities, experiences and community spirit of its people, housing and other stories of the past.
As a way to safeguard the entire heritage of the village, the Ethnographic Museum of Vilarinho das Furnas was built to recreate the place that was submerged by the waters of the reservoir in the Man River, when the dam was built in 1972. Opened since 1981, is a living show of what Vilarinho das Furnas was and the Museum itself was built with original objects and stones taken from the village.
