The church of Santa Maria de Sintra is the main Gothic religious building of the village, witnessing, for its chronology and style, the slow abandonment of the castle and the progressive installation below. The initial construction should go back to the second half of the 12th century, when the district served by the church was the main suburb of the village. However, by the end of the thirteenth century or, more probably, in the middle of the fourteenth century, there was a total renovation of the building, responsible for the general aspect that the temple still has today.
It has been classified as a National Monument since 1922.
