Lighthouse built by the Chilean Navy by the civil engineer Mr. Cisternas Larenas, during the development of the Serena plan, between 1948 and 1952. Its construction was carried out in 1950, by express statement of the President of the Republic Mr. Gabriel González Videla. On October 24, 1953, this structure was delivered to the Mayor Juan Cortéz Alcayata of the Illustrious Municipality of La Serena, later its lighting system was eliminated, leaving it in letters and publications as a notable point that serves to take reference. On November 7, 1985, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Admiral Don José Toribio Merino Castro delivered the lighthouse as a tourist resource for the city to the then Mayor, Mr. Eugenio Munizaga Rodríguez. On May 12, 1896, the Maritime Governor of Coquimbo officially handed over the La Serena Monumental Lighthouse to the Illustrious Municipality of La Serena, in order to offer a tourist attraction with it, taking charge of its maintenance.
Later, in December 1996, the new signal was inaugurated with a P.B.B. modified with a luminous range of 20 nautical miles.
