Informações gerais acerca de OCHO RIOS
Ocho Rios (Spanish for "Eight Rivers") is a town in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica. Just outside the city, travelers and residents can visit Columbus Park, where Columbus supposedly first came on land, and see maritime artifacts and Spanish colonial buildings.

It was once a fishing village but now caters to tourists.[1] It is a port of call for cruise ships[2] as well as for cargo ships loading sugar, limestone, and in the past, bauxite.[citation needed] Scuba diving and other water sports are offered in the town's vicinity.

Gastronomia
The exquisite cuisine of this beautiful destination can be summed up in one word "spices", and it is based on delicious local products, which in perfect harmony can seduce the most demanding palate.

Due to its excellent coastal location, this beautiful destination allows its visitors to enjoy a variety of traditional dishes based on seafood, including cod, considered one of the main domestic products, and usually prepared with vegetables, coconut milk, escolonio, and peppers; it is often accompanied with a delicious round bread called “Bammy”, made from yucca. Other typical ingredients of the region are callaloo, a vegetable similar to spinach; cho-cho, local name to squashes; and Ackee or Aki, an African fruit which cooked has the appearance scrambled eggs, consumed with cod and other fish, salad, and rice. Another delicious and very traditional dish is the famous “Jerk” with dried pork or chicken, marinated with peppers. Other delicious specialties that you can enjoy are the meat or vegetable patties and the popular Rastafari cuisine, which includes a variety of dishes as rice with beans, among others.

As in most of the Caribbean islands, you can enjoy refreshing cocktails with rum, along with the popular Tía María beverage that is prepared with Jamaican coffee, vanilla, and rum; and the popular Jamaican Caribbean Red Stripe beer. Another traditional beverage is Sangster's, a liquor prepared with spices, tropical fruits, sugar cane, and aged rum. For the more adventurous, there is also the pink ginger rum, also called the resurrector of the dead since it helps to relieve hangovers, this digestive should be consumed with responsibility because of its high degree of fermentation. You cannot miss the exquisite Blue Mountain coffee, recognized as one of the best in the world, and due to its limited production, its price is not always very accessible, as it is considered the beverage of the English royalty.

To enjoy exquisite cuisine, this destination offers the Ocho Rios Seafood Festival, an annual festival which features traditional delicious dishes made with grilled fish, lobster, and crab, among others. Also, if you wish to enjoy Jamaican traditional dishes, in Ocho Rios you will also find a variety of restaurants.

Clima
The climate of Ocho Rios is tropical. This means temperatures are warm year round with only small fluctuations and two distinct seasons – wet and dry. The average temperature varies just 3°C across the year – from its lowest of 26°C in January and February to its highest of 29°C around August. Ocho Rios sits within the Atlantic hurricane belt and is at risk between June and November.

The wet season varies in length: it begins around late May or early June and runs through to late November or early December. It is the hottest time of year; most days get up to 31°C and nights stay around 26°C. Making the heat that little bit more uncomfortable between June and September is increased humidity. The rain normally falls in short, heavy showers. September and October are the wettest months of the rainy season. Statistically, October has the highest monthly rainfall average with 171mm, although this does vary year to year. The intensity of the wet season also varies, depending largely on hurricane activity in the vicinity. Hurricanes rarely hit the resort, though it was subject to Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, but if one of these cyclones even passes nearby it can cause violent storms.

Many people find the wet season a good time to visit as there are far fewer tourists and it is generally much cheaper. You must remember that visiting at this time of year is running the risk of bad weather at this time of year – no one wants to be stuck in a hurricane on holiday - but equally you can be lucky; the rains often fall at night and showers are normally brief, leaving plenty of time for sunny weather.
For the rest of the year - the dry season - sunshine prevails and rainfall is much lower. However, this is a tropical location so showers are never out of the question; it rains quite regularly but showers are lighter and shorter, and clouds rarely linger for long. The coolest weather comes in January and February when the average temperature is 26°C. These months are arguably the best time to visit as the temperature is a little more comfortable and sunshine is guaranteed. Temperatures range between 23°C at night and 29°C in the day. Low humidity stops the heat from being uncomfortable, though most will still take some time to acclimatise.

In general, Ocho Rios enjoys a fantastic, hot, tropical climate that can be enjoyed at any time of year – the climate is one of the main reasons the Caribbean is such a popular holiday destination. Just prepare to get wet if you visit during the rainy season.
